A new 24/7 McDonald’s restaurant has opened on the edge of the Lincolnshire Showground, and nearby villages will have access to home delivery for the first time. The drive-thru restaurant is part of the Lincolnshire Showground Services development along the A15 off the Horncastle Lane roundabout.
Once the development is complete, it will also have a Starbucks and service station. Following significant investment from local franchisee James Thompson, McDonald’s is now open for dine-in, takeaway, drive-thru, Click & Serve and home delivery.
The dining area itself is unusually small, with just 25 seats inside, but a separate dedicated courier waiting area makes it spacious. It has created around 95 new full—and part-time jobs for the community.
Mr Thompson, who owns six other McDonald’s restaurants in Lincolnshire, was delighted to see the new venue open to the public on Wednesday, October 23. On opening day, he said, “The customer reaction was superb even within the first 30 minutes of being open.
“The location is great, and it is a part of Lincoln that doesn’t have many amenities, so when the plans went in for a service station, we approached them to take the unit.” Speaking about nearby villages now having the opportunity to order home delivery, he added: “We’ve had great feedback from people who live in the villages on the outskirts because they’ve not really got easy access to a McDonald’s.
“We’ll be the first to offer a delivery service out to places like Welton, Nettleham and that area because at the minute they’re not covered by the other sites in town.”
The restaurant has been built with several sustainable features, as McDonald’s aims to achieve net zero emissions across all its restaurants and offices by 2030. These include roof-mounted solar panels, timber window frames, and partition walls. The building is fully modular, which allows it to be reused in the future.
There are several innovations customers can expect to see at the new site, including:
- A front counter redesign will create specific areas for different sales channels, meaning more space for customers to enjoy their meals, less congestion around touchscreens, and shorter queues.
- A dedicated courier waiting area and entrance will allow the crew to better accommodate courier needs. It will also reduce congestion in the dining area, creating a more relaxing restaurant environment for customers.
- A new kitchen design, which includes a bigger order assembly area and dedicated areas to prepare dine-in orders, will help the crew serve more quickly, efficiently, and accurately.
- An improved car park layout will create modified traffic routes that will improve circulation around the restaurant, making it much easier for drive-thru and Click & Collect customers to get their orders.
- Improved break spaces and redesigned crew rooms will create a more relaxing and comfortable space for the crew to take a break.
