Gainsborough Police return Mopeds to owners

Two moped owners who reported their vehicles stolen have got them back thanks to proactive policing from officers in the Gainsborough area.

We received a report that a black moped had been stolen from outside McDonald’s in the town at around 1.30pm on Easter Sunday.

Officers responding to the incident searched the local area and connecting roads, and found two riders matching descriptions of the offenders on a white moped on the A631. They attempted to leave the area by driving into oncoming traffic when the police arrived. A car and foot pursuit took place and the moped collided with a ditch along the A620 a short time later.

Two boys were located in nearby woodland by using the police drone and foot searches, and were arrested in connection with the theft of the black moped and the white moped which was involved in the collision. The white moped had been reported stolen from the Humberside area.

The black moped was located in the Gainsborough area by officers carrying out local searches. The moped was found to have been damaged. This has now been returned to its owner and the other is awaiting collection.

Two 17-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, driving a motor vehicle without a valid licence, and driving without insurance. They have been released on police bail while investigations continue.
