Blyton consultation

Blyton: public consultation launched on plans for energy storage between Blyton and Pilham

The community’s views are being sought on proposals for a new battery energy storage facility (BESS) between Blyton and Pilham. The site, known as Blyton Energy Storage, will be able to provide electricity for over 6,000 homes when needed.

The proposals are being submitted by RWE Renewables UK, one of the UK’s largest energy providers. RWE is proud to play a vital role in supporting the UK in boosting its energy security.

The proposed energy storage facility is designed to support Lincolnshire’s transition to sustainable energy by enhancing grid stability, improving energy efficiency and reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources. Projects like Blyton energy storage are crucial in capturing and storing energy generated from renewable sources such as solar and wind. These projects help reduce the risk of blackouts and power distributions by ensuring a stable and reliable power supply and energy availability when needed.

A public consultation was launched better to understand the community’s views on the initial plans. A drop-in consultation event is being held at Blyton Village Hall on Thursday 14 November between 3-7pm where community members can learn more about the proposals. RWE is committed to ensuring that community members have their say in shaping these proposals and we look forward to hearing their views throughout the consultation period. Feedback can also be provided on the dedicated project website – uk.rwe.com/blyton – following its launch on 7 November.

RWE ensures that the community is at the heart of all of their proposals. As such, RWE is pleased to be providing a community benefit fund of approximately £140,000 to help fund sustainable initiatives locally. Ecological enhancements such as hedgerows and woodland planting have also been included to help provide screening as well as new habitats for wildlife. These enhancements will deliver a biodiversity net gain of at least 50% – over five times the national requirement.

Ben Kwok, Project Manager at RWE, said:

“Blyton Energy Storage is an important opportunity which will make a meaningful contribution in boosting the UK’s energy security. Projects like this are crucial for building a resilient energy future, allowing us to rely on renewable energy sources as opposed to energy generated from fossil fuels.

“While we are in the early stages of the proposals, we are looking to members of the community to shape the scheme further. We want this project to reflect the needs and desires of local communities and we are very much looking forward to hearing the community’s thoughts throughout the consultation period, and using them going forward.”

Comments can be submitted either at the consultation event, being held at Blyton Memorial Hall on Thursday 14 November between 3-7pm or online via the project website rwe.com/blyton from 7 November. A dedicated project email address – info@blytonenergystorage.co.uk – has also been created to answer any of your questions. The consultation will run until 28 November.
