Marton and Gate Burton Village Hall Committee, which manages the village hall and premises in Marton on behalf of the community, benefiting people in the surrounding area, has received £1,169.00 through Lincolnshire Co-op’s Community Champions scheme.
The CHARITY used this funding to refurbish the wooden floor which has had many feet dancing and playing on it over the last 102 years.
Marton and Gate Burton Village Hall is one of 262 local groups to share £209,051.99, raised from September 2024 to March 2025.
This work enabled the committee to contract Adrian Wilson to fix, sand and re-varnish the floor, keeping it in good order for all the many groups and hirers that use it every week or regularly.
David Smith, Chair of Marton and Gate Burton Village Hall Committee said: “we are really grateful to have been awarded this funding, which has paid for over half of the total cost, enabling us to do some in-house decorating to freshen up the hall to compliment the refurbished floor”.
Lincolnshire Co-op’s Community Champions scheme combines the efforts of members, colleagues, and customers to raise money for local groups and good causes.
A donation is made each time a member shops with their dividend card, colleagues host fundraising events, and customers can donate their spare change.
Lincolnshire Co-op Community Manager Sam Turner said: “It’s once again been overwhelming to visit our Community Champions and see their incredible reactions to the money raised for them.
“With the help from colleague fundraising and our customers scanning their dividend cards or donating change when they shop with us, these local groups can continue to spread positivity and make a great impact on their communities.”
