Retford & Gainsborough Garden Centre celebrates 1st anniversary

Retford & Gainsborough Garden Centre is celebrating its first 12 months since joining the Cherry Lane family, which has seen the garden centre undergo extensive works to improve the shopping experience for customers. The anniversary is being marked with an in-store competition to win a £150 voucher.

Located on Bar Road, Saundby, the garden centre has undergone significant changes since its acquisition. As the UK’s only value garden centre group, Cherry Lane specialises in high-quality gardening products and beautiful plants at amazing prices and Retford & Gainsborough Garden Centre has been expanded to offer customers more product ranges and new departments across the store including outdoor living, pets and garden care. A new mouth-watering menu has been introduced at the popular Citrus Café, including existing favourites and exciting new freshly made meals and light bites. In addition, Cherry Lane has retained the garden centre’s well-established hanging basket growing operation, integrating it into Cherry Lane’s Grown By Us plant range which is sold exclusively in its garden centres.

Cherry Lane retained all existing employees when it acquired the garden centre. Currently, 23 staff work across the garden centre and café, including five new team members who have been recruited in the past 12 months.

To mark 12 successful months of trading, Retford & Gainsborough is giving customers the chance to win a £150 Cherry Lane voucher to spruce up their garden this Spring. To enter, customers simply need to scan their Cherry Picked Rewards loyalty card or app whenever they make a purchase from now until 31st March*. The more scans each customer does, the more entries they get into the competition, providing an even greater chance to win. Customers can sign up for a free Cherry Lane reward card in-store or by simply downloading the Cherry Lane Rewards app, plus they’ll also receive 10% off their next shop and other special deals including treats on their birthday.

Leigh Lunn, manager at Retford & Gainsborough by Cherry Lane, said: “We’re very pleased to be a fully-fledged member of the Cherry Lane family, with our makeover complete in time for our first anniversary. Every area of the garden centre has so much more to offer, from our increased range of plants to the new look Citrus Café. Thank you to our fantastic customers who have supported us throughout the work and we can’t wait to welcome them as they pop in to enter our voucher competition and celebrate with us.”

Mike Ryan, operations manager for Cherry Lane Garden Centres, said: “As a family-run business, we were keen to continue the family ethos of Retford & Gainsborough while also introducing the great value shopping experience customers that expect at Cherry Lane. We are very pleased with the finished result – the team at Retford & Gainsborough has done a brilliant job in managing the amazing transformation. We are very much looking forward to another busy year, with our Spring ranges and great value garden furniture ready to go out on the shelves in the coming weeks. Customers can be sure that Retford & Gainsborough will be bursting with value for 2023 and beyond.”

The UK’s only value garden centre group, Cherry Lane was established in 2001. During the past 22 years, Cherry Lane has gone from strength to strength, starting as a group of three garden centres in East Anglia and growing to 17 across the country today, reaching from Suffolk to Worcester and Essex to Yorkshire. Cherry Lane now also has five of its own on-site nurseries, which cultivate the group’s Grown by Us range of homegrown plants that are sold across the business.
