27 year-old man sentenced to two years for sexual messages to minor

A Gainsborough man who admitted sending  sexual messages to a 13-year-old girl was today (Thurs) jailed for two years.

Daniel Johnson, 27, of Middlefield Lane, talked to the teenager about having sex and encouraged her to send him two naked photographs.

Lincoln Crown Court heard Johnson contacted the teen on Instagram, and lied about his age, claiming to be only 20-years-old.

Johnson also sent the child an explicit photograph of his own body, the court was told.

When police arrested Johnson he made “frank confessions” during his interview.

He later admitted two charges of engaging in sexual communication with a child and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

The two offences occurred when Johnson was aged 26 and the victim was just 13.

Anna Soubry, mitigating for Johnson, argued he was suitable for rehabilitation and could be spared an immediate jail sentence.

Miss Soubry said: “Even if he doesn’t go to prison he has been punished

“He has lost his good name and he has lost his job.”

Miss Soubry added: “If it has to be prison I would ask the sentence is as short as possible.”

Passing sentence Judge Simon Hirst acknowledged there was a prospect of rehabilitation for Johnson.

But Judge Hirst told Johnson his problem on the sentencing guidelines was that his victim was so young, and there was a disparity in age.

“It was clear she was just 13-years-old,” Judge Hirst explained.

Johnson was jailed for two years. He was also made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for seven years and ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years.
