Lincolnshire Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner quits after pub ‘altercation’ arrest

Lincolnshire’s deputy police and crime commissioner has resigned as police investigate a pub “altercation”.

Philip Clark’s resignation was announced by police and crime commissioner Marc Jones on Friday.

Lincolnshire Police said it was investigating an incident that happened in a pub near Lincoln on 10 March.

The force said a man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of affray and perverting the course of justice.

The man was later released on bail.

In a statement, Mr Jones said: “After discussing this with Phil, I have asked him to step down from his role with immediate effect. This will allow time for the full facts to be established.

“He has agreed that this is the appropriate action and tendered his resignation.”

Mr Clark’s term of office was due to end on 2 May, but he “has taken the decision to leave his post a few weeks early”, said Mr Jones.

Mr Clark is a former inspector at Lincolnshire Police, where he served from 1995 until January 2022, when he took up the deputy role.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said: “A man, aged in his 50s, was arrested on March 20, 2024, on suspicion of affray and perverting the course of justice after an altercation at a pub near Lincoln, on March 10 2024.

“He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.”
