Simcha in concert

On 16th December Imperial Hall Epworth will be hosting an unusual and lively concert of Klezmer music by the Lincoln-based band Simcha. You may remember them from their appearance at Epworth Music Day last June. For those unfamiliar with this genre, Klezmer is the exuberant, toe-tapping music of the pre WWII Jewish communities of eastern Europe (think ‘Fiddler on the Roof’). Mostly passed down through oral tradition from the Baltic to the Balkans, these tunes made their way to the United States where they became absorbed in the New York jazz scene.

Supporting Simcha is the duo Damasus who are clarinettist Jonathan Rider accompanied by Enzo Puzzovio on oud (Arabic lute). They play self-penned music inspired by eastern Mediterranean traditions.

The concert begins at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 for adults with a suggestion donation for children. Further information can be had by calling 07944 907051.
