A department store has been broken into for the sixth time this year, prompting police to issue a warning over people being offered cut price items. Browns department store on Marshall’s Yard in Gainsborough was targeted by thieves between 4.30am and 5am on Thursday, May 19.

Thieves took off with a variety of expensive brand items including Lacoste, L’Oreal, Chanel, Ted Baker and Ralph Lauren, which are still unaccounted for. Offers at Lincolnshire Police believe the stolen goods may be offered for sale at cut prices, and have asked the public to keep vigilant.

The Police have now launched an appeal for people to contact them if they are offered men’s designer clothing, designer handbags, or expensive perfumes or aftershaves as they may have been stolen from the store. Detective Michael Head from Gainsborough Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said the incident was being treated as a “priority”.

He said: “These break-ins and thefts are not a small thing. This is an important store for the local area, and every time they are targeted there is an impact on staff and the community.

“There is a financial cost of the goods stolen.” Det Head added: “We hope that our appeal will make people aware of the nature of goods potentially circulating and lead to the identification of the offenders.
