Owners of a popular garden centre and restaurant are moving on after 16 years of business.

The Retford & Gainsborough Garden Centre and its on-site café, in Saundby near Gainsborough, have been bought out by value garden centre group, Cherry Lane.

All 18 staff will be retained.

Owners Byron and Jill Foster said in a Facebook post: “As our beautiful garden centre moves into a new era within the Cherry Lane family, we would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the last 16 years.

“We wish Cherry Lane all the best and hope you will all continue to support and enjoy the garden centre in the months and years ahead.”

Lee Jackson, the new manager at Retford & Gainsborough Garden Centre by Cherry Lane, said plans were in place for a number of renovations at the centre, including a pet shop.

He said: “We’re introducing a number of improvements and developments over the next few months.

“New product ranges will include our famous range of outdoor furniture, as well as solar lighting, water features and barbecues, not to mention indoor furnishings and homewares. Many of these ranges are exclusive to us at Cherry Lane.

“A brand-new Scallywags pet shop is also coming to the centre.”

The new owners have announced plans to move towards selling more “environmentally friendly” products and running new schemes.

Nick Rubins, chief executive of the QD Group, which owns Cherry Lane, said: “Our environmental strategy, Value Our Planet, is the company’s commitment to responsible retailing, and caring for the environment and the world in which we live.

“The initiative will see Retford & Gainsborough stocking more environmentally friendly ranges and eco products. We’re also asking all our customers not to throw away their used flowerpots and compost bags but bring them to the centre for recycling or reuse.”
